UAE’s Cepa Trade Agreements.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is targeting to sign Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (Cepa) with a total of 22 countries and five economic blocs, covering up to 95% of global trade. The Ministry of Economy announced on Thursday that agreements have already been concluded with India, Indonesia, Israel, and Turkey, and negotiations are underway with six more countries: Chile, Vietnam, Ukraine, Kenya, Pakistan, and Thailand.

To shape the parameters of the upcoming discussions, the UAE is initiating a survey targeting business owners, industrialists, and entrepreneurs. The survey is open to all interested parties and will help ensure maximum benefit from the latest roster of deals, the ministry said in a statement.

Juma Alkait, assistant undersecretary for International Trade Affairs Sector, emphasized the importance of the private sector in promoting foreign trade and economic growth. "The survey is an opportunity for businesses to share their experiences, concerns, and priorities directly with us, to not only shape ongoing negotiations but to also inform adjustments on deals already in play," he said.

The survey features six sections covering areas such as current market access in the targeted countries, trade and investment potential, barriers to trade, and the role of government in facilitating exports and investments. The responses will be used by the ministry to ensure the optimum deal for UAE businesses, whether through smoother, more seamless market access for exports or by creating the right climate for UAE investors in the partner countries.

This latest initiative by the UAE demonstrates its commitment to promoting international trade and boosting economic growth, in partnership with the private sector. By seeking input from businesses, the country is ensuring that trade agreements reflect the realities and priorities of the marketplace.
