In a recent announcement, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently extended an open invitation to the country’s young men and women to become part of the government. The announcement, made on his official social media platforms, aimed to find a skillful individual to represent youth issues as the Minister of Youth in the UAE Cabinet.
Within just seven hours of the Vice-President’s call to action, an overwhelming number of 4,700 applications from aspiring candidates flooded in, showcasing the enthusiasm and drive of the UAE’s youth.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of homeland issues, maintain a rational approach, and have a genuine passion for serving the nation. The call for candidates sought individuals who are competent, capable, and honest.
Applicants were encouraged to send their submissions to the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs at ContactUs@moca.gov.ae.
This approach garnered praise on social media, with many hailing it as a progressive and transparent method of filling a ministerial post. I personally believe it is a good approach to include more youth in the government and encourage their participation in the country’s decisions towards the youth. One commentator on microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) noted, “What a progressive, transparent, digitized, and effective way of announcing a ministerial post! This is a meritocracy in action. Bravo UAE!”
The move highlights the UAE’s commitment to fostering the next generation of leaders and ensuring a government that truly represents its people. As the applications continue to pour in, it is clear that the nation’s youth are eager to take on the responsibility of shaping their country’s future. One candidate expressed their dedication by stating, “I will be in the field among the youth and society, to be the best minister of youth in history.”
The UAE’s dedication to transparent and inclusive governance sets an example for the world, reinforcing its reputation as a global reference for excellence in government practices.
