In an inspiring initiative, the UAE has provided clean drinking water to 10,000 people in rural Vietnam through the Beyond2020 project. Supported by local and international governments, this effort installed eight water filtration systems in five villages and three schools in Vietnam’s Quang Nam province. The goal is to reduce waterborne diseases and improve community health.

Beyond2020, an extension of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, is led by the Agir Ensemble Foundation in France. It introduces Safe Water Cubes, hand-pumped fountains that purify water without chemicals or electricity. Each fountain can produce 1,000 liters of clean water per hour, benefiting villages of up to 1,000 residents.

This project has already positively impacted communities in Madagascar and Cambodia. It showcases the power of innovative and sustainable solutions to provide clean drinking water where it’s needed most.

Dr. Bader Al Matrooshi, UAE Ambassador to Vietnam, highlights the shared commitment to addressing sustainability challenges, while Vietnam’s Ambassador to the UAE, Nguyen Manh Tuan, praises the initiative for its impact on community health and happiness.

With support from partners like the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, Mubadala Energy, and Masdar, Beyond2020 addresses global water and food insecurity, health, and energy challenges. It’s a testament to the UAE’s dedication to making a difference in the world.

The Zayed Sustainability Prize, established to honor Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, continues to recognize and support innovative solutions in sustainability. Beyond2020 is a shining example of this commitment in action.
