UAE And OMAN Cooperation

UAE and Oman Join Hands to Enhance Cooperation in Environmental Protection

The UAE delegation, led by Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, the Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, recently visited Oman to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in several areas related to environmental protection. The visit concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment (MoCCAE) of the UAE and Oman's Environment Authority. The MoU aims to drive sustainable development and boost cooperation in various fields related to environmental protection, including fish farming, achieving net-zero targets, mangrove plantation, and the UAE's preparations for the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28).

The UAE's efforts to encourage the implementation of eco-friendly solutions to address environmental challenges align with its hosting of COP28 and its efforts to push forward climate action locally and globally. The MoU outlines a plan for the exchange of research and studies, joint research in the fields of environmental preservation, enhancing air quality, biodiversity conservation, and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and preparing sustainable development progress reports. The two sides will also exchange best practices and policies related to environmental conservation and reducing pollution.

The visit included meetings with Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of Oman's Environment Authority, and Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of Oman. The exchange between the UAE and Oman is an essential step towards achieving a sustainable future in the region. As neighboring countries, the two nations have a shared responsibility to preserve the environment and work together towards common goals.

The UAE has been a leading player in the global push for environmental protection and sustainable development. The country has launched several initiatives and programs aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development. The UAE's National Climate Change Plan 2050 outlines a strategy for reducing carbon emissions by 23.5 percent by 2030, increasing the share of clean energy to 50 percent, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Oman, on the other hand, has been working towards sustainable development and environmental conservation for several years. The country has implemented several programs to promote sustainable agriculture, fisheries, and water management. Oman is also home to several biodiversity hotspots, including the Arabian Sea, the Musandam Peninsula, and the Dhofar Mountains.

The signing of the MoU between the UAE and Oman is a significant step towards achieving sustainable development in the region. The exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices will help both nations in their efforts to protect the environment and promote sustainable development. The visit also highlights the importance of regional cooperation in addressing global challenges related to climate change and environmental protection
