O.N.E. Amazon unveiled at COP28 in Dubai
The Government of the United Arab Emirates organized the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) at Expo City from November 30 to December 12, 2023. This historic gathering brought together world leaders, environmentalists, and innovators to address the critical issue of climate change and set the way for unprecedented ambition in sustainability initiatives.
Amid this historic event, a game-changing effort called O.N.E. Amazon developed. O.N.E. Amazon is a paradigm shift in conservation and investing techniques, headed by visionary entrepreneur and CEO Rodrigo Veloso and led by former Blackrock Chief Investing Officer Peter Knez.
O.N.E. Amazon’s goal is to rethink the value and preservation of the Amazon rainforest using next-generation digital asset securities. The event highlighted the ambition to engage investors from around the world in protecting the 750 million-hectare Amazon rainforest, emphasizing the convergence of environmental effects and investment possibilities.
During the COP28 corridors, O.N.E. Amazon revealed its audacious goal of positively impacting the lives of the 35 million people who live in the Amazon region. The proposal intends to put a monetary value on the rainforest by securing a 30-year preservation pact covering 50 million hectares, an area larger than Spain.
The relationship between finance and environmental responsibility took center stage during COP28. The issuance of Digital Asset Securities by O.N.E. Amazon was promoted as a process in which each security mirrored the perceived worth of a rainforest hectare. Proceeds from these securities will be directed to the O.N.E Amazon Impact Fund (O.A.I.F), which will promote job creation and sustainable energy transitions in Amazonian communities.
The presentation in Dubai highlighted O.N.E. Amazon’s collaboration with MIT Media Lab, which pioneered a platform that monitors and tokenizes every hectare represented by a Digital Asset Security. This Internet of Forests (IoF) provides real-time insights into the Amazon biome’s state, assuring accountability and informed decision-making.COP28 provided the ideal platform for the official debut of O.N.E. Amazon to a worldwide audience. As the event came to an end, the initiative announced that the first offering of its Digital Asset Security would begin in Q1 2024, ushering in a new chapter in conservation and investment innovation.
Essentially, the COP28 meeting in Dubai witnessed the intersection of environmental urgency and innovative solutions, with O.N.E. Amazon emerging as a catalyst for change. This program, which was born amid global climate action negotiations, represents a blend of conservation and investment, moving us toward a future where sustainability and financial incentives go hand in hand.
