Celebrating Emirati Women’s Day: Collaborating for a Sustainable Tomorrow

On the 28th of August, Emirati Women's Day is celebrated in the United Arab Emirates to honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of women to the country's development and progress. This year, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), has announced the theme for Emirati Women's Day 2023 as "We Collaborate for Tomorrow."

The theme of Emirati Women's Day 2023 aligns with the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's announcement of 2023 as the "Year of Sustainability," emphasizing the UAE's commitment to innovative solutions for sustainability challenges. The UAE has made significant strides in promoting gender balance and empowering women, which is an integral part of the country's social culture.

In Her Highness Sheikha Fatima's announcement, she highlights the importance of collaboration between federal and local authorities, civil society, and the private sector to enhance gender balance achievements. The UAE's dedication to sustainability is evident, with two-thirds of the management team and over 50% of the administrative staff being women. Women are leading the charge in addressing climate change, as the UAE prepares to tackle the issues related to climate change before COP28, which is scheduled to take place in November 2023.

Emirati Women's Day is a national occasion that prioritizes the recognition and empowerment of women in the country. The theme for this year's celebration emphasizes the importance of collaboration and sustainability, two key factors for the UAE's progress and development. The UAE continues to pave the way for women's leadership and gender balance, which is a crucial component of the country's strategy for a sustainable future.

As we celebrate Emirati Women's Day, let us recognize the invaluable contributions of women to the country's progress and development. Let us also commit to collaborating for a sustainable future, empowering women, and achieving gender balance.
